Quick-thinking pit bull owner helps police nab potential dog-napper

- The Herald

York police chased a teenager Thursday after they say he tried to steal a pit bull from a nearby yard.

The 16-year-old ran when the dog's owner noticed him trying to enter the kennel on Fourth Street around 11 a.m., according to a report from the York City Police Department. Other dogs barking in the yard clued the man to look outside, where the teen was hiding behind the kennel, the report said.

The dog owner grabbed his shoes and cell phone and called police as he chased the teen through the woods to Fifth Street, then toward Ross Cannon Street, where police found the teenager, approached him with a taser, ordered him to the ground and handcuffed him.

The teen was charged with trespassing and attempted petty larceny of one dog valued at $250. He was taken to the Moss Justice Center and the Department of Juvenile Justice was notified.
