Christmas comes to Clover

CLOVER --

Worried the holiday rush will overwhelm you and you'll end up missing all the fun?

Take an hour out of your hectic schedule this Sunday for the 39th Annnual Clover Christmas Parade. Don't forget the parade has a new day and time this year. Everything starts moving down Main Street at 3 p.m. Sunday, not Saturday as in previous years.

“Our downtown merchants wanted to be a part of the parade and it was dificult for them to participate on a Saturday while their stores are open,” Greater Clover Chamber of Commerce President Beth Covington said.

“So we whot for a time between the morning and evening Sunday church services so most people would be able to come out and enjoy it,” she added.

People will want to show up early because it will be up to them to find a parking space somewhere near the parade route. Also traffic will be rerouted so that both northbound and southbound traffic will be traveling in what are usually the northbound lanes on Main Street. The southbound lanes will be closed to accommodate the parade, Covington said.

“It usually lasts about an hour,” she said.

With 60-70 entries in the parade Covington is sure people will find something they like.

“In my opinion there is something for everyone,” she continued. “We've got several fire departments, the high school marching band, lots of school and church floats, the Shriners, it's going to be a blast.”

And of course Santa will make an appearance.

Line up for the parade starts at Old North Main Street, and the rooute will take participants to the Huffmon Corp. property at the corner of Main Street and Ultra Avenue.

Following the parade parents can pick up their children who participated at the large parking lot at the Main Street and Ultra Avenue intersection.

The Clover Police Department will be helping with traffic and safety during and after the parade, Covington said.
