Whites celebrate 60th

Earl B. White and Arbutus C. Hartsoe were married by Rev. Hodge at the First Baptist Manse in York on Jan. 7 1950. The couple will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary quitely at home next Thursday.

Both York natives, White and Hartsoe met while working across the street from each other, she at The Picture Show (now the Sylvia Theater), he at York Drug Store.

White had recently returned to his hometown following a stint in the Navy. Hartsoe was a senior in high school when the couple married. After receiving her high school diploma, Hartsoe became a homemaker and worked part time as bookkeeper for Rock Hill Auto Parts.

White took a job as a custodian at the Post Office in York and later retired as Post Master in the early 1980s.

Now both retired the Whites continue to reside in York.
