CLOVER --
Three students at Kinard Elementary School placed in the top five in the “Terrific Tales: Comporium’s Student Writing Contest,” a partnership with the York County Library’s Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival.
Sixty-three schools in four neighboring counties in South Carolina participated in the contest by sending the top three entries from each school. The entries were judged by South Carolina State Department of Education’s writing standards.
Sarah Kelly, Grace Shaeffer, and Christian Pearson, students in Yolanda Cobb’s forth grade class submitted their stories and were honored to be in the top five, each taking home prize money.
“They are all very talented students. I allowed them to bring their own gifts to the table,” Ms. Cobb said.
Comporium plans to have all winning stories illustrated and published in a book for all second graders in the area.
The requirements stated that each story should be a personal narrative.
Christian Pearson placed forth with his story, “My Invisible Day,” a story about how a student dealt with being invisible one day at school.
Grace Shaeffer placed third with her story, “The Day I Saved Clover,” a story about how a girl became a town hero.
Sarah Kelly placed second with her story, “The Adventures of Super Luna and Her New Side-Kick,” a story about two courageous kittens.
