York Chamber names Piedmont Medical Center April Business of the Month

The Greater York Chamber of Commerce selected Piedmont Medical Center as its April 2010 Business of the Month, in late March.

Piedmont Medical Center is a 288-bed hospital in Rock Hill with more than 380 physicians on its medical staff representing more than 40 specialties.

Piedmont offers a broad range of medical and surgical services including its Heart & Vascular Center; Women’s Center; Emergency Department; cancer services; intensive, coronary and cardiovascular care units; endoscopy; Wound Care Center; Sleep Center; and Pain Care Center.

The newest addition to Piedmont’s services is Piedmont Internal Medicine and Family Practice at York on Devinney Road at the intersection of E. Liberty St. In addition, Piedmont operates Piedmont Family Practice at Tega Cay, Piedmont Internal Medicine at Baxter Village, Piedmont Urgent Care at Baxter Village, Piedmont Family Practice at Rock Hill, and Piedmont East Urgent Care Center. Outpatient imaging centers include the Imaging Center at Baxter Village, Fort Mill Mammography and the Women’s Diagnostic Center.

Piedmont has earned a three-year accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with Peripheral Cardiac Intervention by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. In addition, Piedmont’s cancer program received three-year Approval with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

The medical center was named the American Heart Association/Stroke Association Get With the Guidelines® South Carolina 2010 Distinguished Hospital of the Year. The award is presented by DHEC and American Heart Association to a hospital that has made significant contributions in quality of care for patients with cardiovascular disease and stroke. Only one South Carolina hospital is selected annually.

Piedmont also recently was named a BlueCross BlueShield of SC Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery. This award is presented in recognition of distinguished clinical care and processes. HealthGrades ranks Piedmont in top 10 percent in the U.S. and third in South Carolina for pulmonary care. The hospital is also a recipient of the 2010 HealthGrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™, and is 5-star rated for pneumonia and COPD.
