Man charged with robbing Clover bar

A man was arrested Saturday after police say he tried to rob a Clover bar as it was closing.
Edward Lee Cobbs, 45, of York has been charged with strong armed robbery and possession of contraband. He is being held on a $20,000 bond in Moss Justice Center.
An employee of the Bear's Den on N. Hwy. 161 says she was closing the bar about 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a York County Sheriff's Office report. She was escorting Cobbs, who is a regular customer, out of the bar. As they approached the door, he refused to leave and turned to choke the employee with both hands.
The woman escaped and ran out of the bar, where a witness was outside, the report states. Cobbs left a few minutes later with a bag of cash, and the witness outside fought with him to stop him.
Once deputies arrived on scene, he was placed into custody and taken to Piedmont Medical Center for scratches and bruises, the report states. He was then taken to Moss Justice.
