Clover boutique ‘a hub for crafters’

CLOVER --

Andrea Meglii enjoys making handmade crafts, but she grew tired of lugging her refinished furniture to craft shows. So she decided to offer a venue for local crafters to sell their wares.

Meglii opened Crafty Crafty, a new store that offers local crafters a place to sell their handmade goods. It also has classroom space, and she plans to offer workshops led by herself and other crafters.

“I like making things look new again that may have been discarded before,” said Meglii, who began refinishing furniture several years ago. It was a part-time venture until last month, when the store opened.

The store, at 504 S. Main St. in Clover, sells the works of seven local crafters. It has handmade quilts, jewelry, candles, decorative items for the home, knitted goods and baby items like bibs, blankets and burp cloths.

Meglii is in the process of adding more crafters and increasing her inventory. Last week, the shop also offered its first craft class. Meglii taught a workshop on making a button monogram wall hanging.

“I’ve had a lot of people come in and say they think it’s a wonderful idea and they can’t wait for classes to start,” she said. She is in the process of getting people lined up to teach classes.

“A lot of people have asked about knitting, and we do have knitting classes,” she said. “People are really excited about that.”

Craft classes are listed on the web site, www.craftyonmain.com. They include workshops on beginning knitting, making a children’s Valentine frame, hula hoop rug, magnetic message board, dry erase board and many others.

“I wanted this to be a hub for crafters,” she explained. “I wanted a place where we could all get together and try to help one another promote our crafts and figure out where is a good craft show. It’s good to get some feedback from other people who have tried these things.

“It’s basically crafters helping crafters,” she said. “And we wanted to have a place where people can learn to do creative things.”

Meglii said she is open to requests for classes from customers. “We’re just going to try all kinds of things,” she said. “If there’s something out there that people want to try, they can suggest it and we can try it.”

The site also offers birthday parties.

Meglii and her husband, Craig, moved to Clover about seven years ago. She formerly worked as a church secretary and enjoyed refinishing furniture that she has sold.

Her father also does upholstery, Meglii said, and he plans to be doing some pieces to be sold at the shop. Meglii’s refinished furniture includes a desk, table, a bookcase and a dresser. She also will accept orders to refinish pieces.

Meglii, the mother of four sons, said the shop has been a family project. Her sons “have been a lot of help. They have helped hand out fliers to people and when we were renovating the building, they were here painting and helping do things around here.”

Boutiques hours for Crafty Crafty are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Workshops are offered at scheduled times. For a schedule of craft workshops and to sign up, visit the web site, wwww.craftyonmain.com. For more information, call 803-222-4880.
