Solas, one of the most popular, influential Celtic bands around, will be in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at Clover School District Auditorium, 1625 S.C. 55 E., Clover. From Woody Guthries Pastures of Plenty to Bruce Springsteens Ghost of Tom Joad, to traditional jigs and reels, Solas plays Irish music varying the mix of fire-tested tradition and contemporary sensibility with ease.
Anchored by founders Seamus Egan (flute, tenor banjo, mandolin, whistle, guitar and bodhran) and Winifred Horan (fiddle) this internationally-acclaimed group has captured the hearts and ears of Irish music fans and fans around the globe.
Solas is rounded out by Mick McAuley (accordions, low whistle, concertina, vocals), Eamon McElholm (guitars, keyboards, vocals), and newest member and lead singer, Niamh Varian-Barry.
The group has made 10 albums with the latest, Shamrock City inspired by Egans family history. It tells the story of Butte, Mont., a mining town at the turn of the 20th century, as seen through Egans Irish immigrant great-great-uncle.
Tickets are $15 and available by calling 803-222-8018. For band information visit www.solasmusic.com.
