YORK --

A York woman was arrested Tuesday after deputies say she hit a man she was arguing with in the head with a metal exercise bar.

Armanda Katherine Bruce, 23 of 3370 Hands Mill Hwy. is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to a York County Sheriff’s report.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, told deputies that Bruce and her mother — his girlfriend — began to argue. The man stepped in when he said Bruce’s boyfriend went towards Bruce’s mother. The mother told deputies that while her boyfriend and Bruce’s boyfriend were arguing, Bruce grabbed a metal pull-up exercise bar and hit the man with it, just above his left eye.

He was bleeding from a cut above his eye, and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville for treatment, police say.

Two teenage witnesses confirmed Bruce’s mother and boyfriend’s stories. Bruce told police she never hit the man, but only intervened in the argument when her mother’s boyfriend started choking her own boyfriend. She said her boyfriend punched the man.
