Discoveries plans golf tourney

The second annual Clifton Carter Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Discoveries Soccer Club, will be Nov. 1 at the Waterford Golf Club, Rock Hill. Registration is now open online. Applications also can be downloaded from the web site, www.discoveriessoccerclub.org.

Players of the week named

Cougar football Players of the Week for the Lancaster game are:

Offensive POW: Ryan Moore, 10 rushes, 141 yards, 3 TDS, 1 reception 6 yards; Offensive Line POW, Riley Moore, graded 89 percent, 6 knockdowns; Special Team, Lee Wright, 4 punt returns, 125 yards, 1 returned 90 yards for TD; Defensive Player of the Week, Chad Hill, 9 tackles, 1 interception returned 15 yards, 1 tackle for loss, 1 big hit; Defensive Lineman POW, Rominique Mobley, 10 tackles, 1 quarterback pressure, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, 1 big hit.

YCHS girls tennis faces Rock Hill

YCHS tennis coach Phil Suggs commended several players for competing well in a 5-1 team loss to Rock Hill.

Katherine Wilkins earned a well-played win at No. 5 singles and Haley Giles played well but lost a close match at No. 4.

Alicia Matthews won her jayvee singles match. Alicia and Gracie Arnold won their jayvee doubles match.

“In a team loss to Fort Mill, Heba Abdin played a much improved match and Wilkins played very well, also losing a close match,” noted Suggs.

McGee to coach North-South volleyball

York Comprehensive High School volleyball coach Julie McGee, a former Winthrop University standout who has elevated the YCHS program to record numbers, has reached the ultimate in her profession.

McGee has been selected to coach in the North-South Volleyball Matches to be held Nov. 17 at Erskine College in Due West.

YCHS athletic director Steve Boyd issued a hearty congratulations to McGee, who teaches PE at York Intermediate School.

YCHS volleyball team falls to Fort Mill

The York Comprehensive High School volleyball team fell to Fort Mill in straight sets, 25-16, 25-14 and 29-27.

The team finished the night with 28 kills, 5 aces, 38 digs and 5 blocks.

Junior mainstay Mattie Ballard was the leading player for the Lady Cougars with 10 kills, only 1 error and 15 digs.
