ROCK HILL --

A York man told police he heard leaves rustle behind him before someone shot him in the back in Rock Hill Monday night.

Police spoke with Timothy Stewart, 24, who said he was walking to a Fargo Street house around 6 p.m. when he heard the noise behind him. He turned and saw a man wearing a black hooded jacket walking toward him, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Stewart said he tried to run when he was shot in the back, the report states. He went to a woman’s house and said he had been shot. The woman said she never heard a gunshot, but police saw a small bullet hole in the Stewart’s lower back. EMS took him to Carolinas Medical Center, where he’s listed in good condition.

He wasn’t able to give a detailed description of the gunman, aside from saying he might be between 17 and 25 and wore a black hooded jacket with dark blue jeans.
