York schools have decorated chair raffle

YORK --

Ten children’s chairs — each one painted with a theme representing a different book — have been created by York students and staff and will be raffled off this month to benefit a local scholarship.

The scholarship is being sponsored by the York teacher’s forum, an organization of annual Teachers of the Year from each school who work on projects with the district superintendent.

Students from each of the 10 schools in the York district chose a book to represent in their chair, said Hunter Street Elementary School art teacher Diane Brown, the 2012 Teacher of the Year.

Art teachers and some students from each school then painted a children’s chair with an artistic design to represent the chosen book.

Raffle tickets are being sold at $1 each for each chair, Brown said. All 10 chairs will be on display from 3 to 5 p.m. weekdays Dec. 13 to 18 at the district office, where people can see them and purchase tickets, Brown said.

The drawing will be Dec. 19, she said, and winners will be notified. Proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. Clover students attend FBLA conference
