Clover faces Fort Mill in region play Friday

CLOVER -- 

The Clover High School varsity basketball teams return to Region 3-AAAA play Friday, hosting cross-county rival Fort Mill in double-header action.

The Lady Blue Eagles, unbeaten in region play and defending Region 3-AAAA champions, will get things started against the Fort Mill girls at 6:30 p.m.

Riding the momentum of a title-clinching win in the Andrew Jackson Classic, the Blue Eagles will be pitted against the Fort Mill boys before the home fans at 8 p.m.

The CHS boys defeated Lewisville 56-52 in a championship game thriller at the Andrew Jackson Tournament.

Sophomore guard/forward Bryce Allen nailed a 3-pointer to put Clover ahead for good and senior playmaking guard Taylor Hoover iced the win with a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left on the scoreboard clock

Allen paced a balanced scoring attack with 13 points. Alex Thompson was next with 12 points and Hoover finished in double-figures with 10. Rounding out the scoring, Ladarius Adams had 9 points, R. J. Moore 6, Jevon Blake 4 and Rae Armstrong 2.

The Blue Eagles won the consolation championship of the Inaugural Clover Optimist Classic by defeating rival York 65-58 in a closely-contested title game.

Thompson, who was named to the all-tournament team, had another productive game, scoring 18 points to lead the CHS team.

Arnaldo Toro continued his emergence as a force to deal with in the paint, scoring 18 points for the home-standing Blue Eagles.

Allen finished in double-figures with 10 points. Blake had 8, Adams 7, Hoover 5, John Wilson 3 and Moore 1.

Prior to the holiday tournament appearances, the CHS boys defeated Lancaster 72-65 at home.

Toro became the Bruins’ worst nightmare, pouring in 27 points. Blake had 14 points, Allen 10 and Hoover 9.

The Lady Blue Eagles built a 35-21 lead at intermission and topped Byrnes 55-48 in the opening round of the Carolina Classic in Charleston.

Senior floor leader Aaliyah Knox and sure-handed sophomore inside threat Elizabeth Edmunds paced the scoring with 16 points each.

Greenbrier built a 10-point lead after three quarters and withstood a Clover rally down the stretch to defeat the Lady Blue Eagles 61-56 in the second round of the Carolina Classic.

Knox had another productive game, leading the CHS team in scoring with 20 points. Lauren Richardson finished in double-figures with 11 points. Edmunds scored 7 points; Ashia Good, 6; Robbins and Zasu Carpenter, 5 each; and Sidney Sanders, 2.
