- jmcfadden@heraldonline.com

MCCONNELLS --

A McConnells man is charged with attempted murder after deputies say he stabbed his wife with a sword disguised as a walking cane while she slept.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Phillip Demdro Perry, 63, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving calls from 42-year-old Gercene Perry, who said her husband was trying to stab her, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. Dispatchers could hear ruckus in the background and determined that Perry stabbed his wife in the stomach.

Deputies swarmed the Ginn Road house and found Perry half-way down the road, the report states. He had blood on his clothes and injuries on his left hand and head.

Phillip Perry is held at the York County Detention Center, awaiting warrants that will charge him with attempted murder.
