YORK --
A York teen was detained by police because he was carrying a BB gun that looked like a real gun, according to a York Police report.
The boy was seen standing next to the Wendys drive-thru holding a gun around 11 p.m. Jan. 23, witnesses told police. He was stopped by officers nearby and questioned.
The teen told police he had bought the BB gun at Walmart. The gun resembled a real handgun and had no red cap to indicate it was a toy, according to the report.
Police also connected the boy to reports of a teen in a car pointing a gun at people. That incident also was determined to be related to the BB gun.
Officers turned the teen over to his grandmother and explained to him the dangers of carrying the gun and portraying the gun as a real weapon.
