York schools plan registration for 4K, 5K

The York school district will have 4-year-old preschool registration and 5-year-old kindergarten registration on February 6 to 8 for students who will be 4 or 5 on or before Sept 1.

Registration will be at Cotton Belt, Harold C. Johnson, Hickory Grove/Sharon, Hunter Street and Jefferson elementary schools in York.

Wednesday, Feb. 6 will be a “late registration day”. Parents may visit the school office to register children between 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. on that day. On Thursday, Feb. 7, and Friday, Feb. 8, parents may register students between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at any elementary school office.

In order to register, parents must bring a copy of the child’s S.C. Immunization Form and state-issued birth certificate, proof of residency such as a property tax notice or a utility bill and a picture ID for the parent or legal guardian. A Social Security card is optional.

A six-week session of the Love & Logic parenting class will be offered to Clover parents beginning Feb. 20.

Classes will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday evenings Feb. 20 through March 25 at the Clover Resource Center. Child care will be provided for school-aged children. There is a $12 per person cost for materials.

Deadline to register is Feb. 15. Completed registration forms, which are available on the Clover school district web site at www.clover.k12.sc.us, should be turned in to parents’ school guidance counselor. Registration forms may also be mailed to Kinard Elementary: 201 Pressley St., Clover SC 29710.

Applications accepted for Clover scholarship

Clover native Lelia Jackson will award the first LANDIS Scholarship to a deserving Clover High School senior. Jackson, a 1983 graduate of CHS, affectionately named the scholarship after her father Landis Jackson, who worked in the Clover school district for a number of years.

Students applying for the LANDIS “Lifting And Navigating Determined Inspired Students” Scholarship must demonstrate a financial need, a 3.0 grade point average and community service.

Students can see the Clover High School guidance department for additional details or they may also contact Jackson via email at Laajacks@aol.com. Applications are due to the Clover High School guidance department by April 1.

Help choose Employee of Month

The Clover School District’s Teacher Forum, a group made up of each school’s teacher of the year, seeks community input as it expands the district’s Employee of the Month recognition program, sponsored by Family Trust Federal Credit Union.

The program, which runs through May, is a way for school employees to be shown appreciation and gratitude from co-workers, parents, students and the community. The program has been operated for several years through paper ballots in each school.

Anyone may nominate an employee for recognition on each school’s website.

To nominate a school-based employee in the district, visit the employee’s school website and click the “vote now for Employee of the Month” button on the homepage.

Each school’s recipient is presented with a $25 Visa gift card from Family Trust, and his or her picture is displayed in the school’s lobby.
