Clover schools upcoming projects about safety

Renovations being done this summer by Clover School District will be noticeable and could make schools safer.
The Clover school board last week saw renderings for upcoming projects for seven of the district’s 10 schools. Much of the work will be in the pick-up and drop-off areas, or the main offices.
Crowders Creek, Bethel, Bethany, Griggs Road and Kinard elementaries and Clover Middle will see sidewalk canopies extended for use during drop-off and pick-up. Clover High School may have similar work done where students exit the building toward the athletic fields and track.
“Over the summer, we’re doing work on the canopy to keep the rain off the kids,” said board member Sherri Ciurlik. “It’ll be nice to have in September or October when it gets cold and rainy.”
The canopy projects haven’t yet been put to bid, but the district estimates it will cost a little more than $1 million using the district’s building fund.
While the canopies will be convenient, Ciurlik said, office work at Bethel and Griggs Road schools is about securing entrances.
Crowders Creek also will see it’s entrances secured. However, Crowders Creek includes larger-scale projects, including building a new, centralized administrative office to replace the two on either end of the current school. The existing offices will be renovated for classroom and special education use. Crowders once housed two separate schools, an elementary and middle, creating the need for separate offices.
Work at Crowders, also to be paid for through the building fund, will begin in the next couple of weeks with the administrative office addition expected to be complete in December.
Other district projects include the ongoing replacement of existing school signs with LED, digital marquees at Clover Middle and Clover High, and some exterior aesthetic improvements at Bethel.
“The canopy projects will start immediately after school lets out in June and will have a projected completion date of October,” said Mychal Frost, the district’s public information officer.
