Report: Man found with crack in Clover said he was buying keyboard for his church

CLOVER -- 

A 62-year-old North Carolina man told deputies that he had been trying to buy a keyboard for his church when they stopped him in Clover on Thursday and found crack cocaine in his pockets.

Valentino Nathaniel Burroughs, of Belmont, N.C., was charged with possession of crack cocaine, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. He was released Friday on a $2,600 bond.

Deputies were patrolling the area around Oak Ridge Road when officers saw Burroughs turn a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina turn onto Oak Ridge without using a turn signal, the report states. An officer performed a traffic stop, asking Burroughs for his driver’s license.

He said he only had a North Carolina ID, the report states. Police had Burroughs step out of the car, during which he said he had been trying to buy a keyboard for his church. He also denied having anything illegal on him.

Deputies searched Burroughs and found two rocks of crack cocaine in his right front pocket.
