Man shot in York while 2 children were in home

YORK -- 

A 13-year-old boy called 911 when his father was shot in the neck and stomach following a confrontation with a gunman late Sunday night, police say.

Around 10:48 p.m., officers were called to 102 Autumn Place in the Valley neighborhood and met with the teenager, who directed them to the first bedroom on the right. There, police found 32-year-old Demark Maurice Matthews on the floor, bleeding uncontrollably from a gunshot wound, according to a York Police report.

He had been shot in the neck and abdomen, said Lt. Rich Caddell with the York Police Department. Police will not release what the confrontation was about, but Caddell said, "it's not drug related."

Matthews was coherent, the report states, and able to answers questions police asked him, the report states. When they asked who shot him, he identified the shooter twice as Anthony Eugene Lord, a 47-year-old York man.

No other injuries were reported, Caddell said.

EMS airlifted Matthews to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he is in critical condition, police said.

Officers are still combing the area for Lord.

Asked if there were other witnesses to the shooting, Caddell said, "We're still working on that."

An 18-month-old baby was also in the house, but Caddell is unsure of the infant's gender or relation to Matthews.

Police have issued warrants for Lord that will charge him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon.

York County court records show that Lord's criminal history includes a 2006 arrest for driving under the influence. A year later, he was found not guilty during a trial. In 2000, he was charged with driving without a license. He pleaded guilty some months later and was ordered to pay $643.

A weapon was not recovered at the scene, so police consider Lord "armed and dangerous."
