— A McConnells woman is suspected of stealing money from a Rock Hill church, rifling through the pastor’s wife’s purse and pocketing keys to the church building, pastor’s house and pastor’s car, police say.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, police spoke with an associate pastor at Inspiration Baptist Church on Comer Road, who said a member of the congregation saw the woman leaving the pastor’s office during the evening service, according to a Rock Hill Police report.

When the pastor went into the office, he realized the woman went through his wife’s purse and took $35, as well as keys to the building, the report states. He found an additional $20 missing from an office folder and noticed that keys to his house, car and the church were gone.

He said attempts were made to contact the woman, but she won’t answer her phone, the report states.

Police are investigating. No arrests had been made by Monday morning.

The report does not indicate if the accused theft is a member of the congregation.
