Clover student council receives gold honor

The Clover High School Student Council received the Gold Level Honor Council Award at the 65th annual Association of Student Councils State Convention in Pawley’s Island March 8 to 10.

The award was given to the students based on the type of activities that they sponsor at the high school and in the community.

Senior Kate Stewart was inducted into the Terry McCoy Leadership Hall of Fame for her dedication, teamwork and leadership skills.

In addition, Clover junior Adam Moore was elected to the office of state recording secretary. He will be representing Clover and Student Council District Four in all future state meetings.

Staff advisors include Rhonda Morris and Taylor Black.

York students have art displayed

Students in York schools have been chosen to have their art displayed at the district office. The following students have art on display:

• York Middle: Lauren Lackey, Kobi McNeely, Nicholas Dickson, Hailey Lattimore, Owen Mobley, Christopher Lloyd Watson, Ben Watkins.

• Jefferson Elementary: McKenzie Justice, Jack Peeler.

• Harold C. Johnson Elementary: Josh Johnson, Jacob Roberts.

• Hunter Street Elementary: Emily Grace Watson, Hayden Lee Ford.

• Hickory Grove/Sharon Elementary: Savannah Moore, Weston Hance, Eryn Taylor Canupp, Chance Dean Patterson, Bailee Lee-Ann Ayers.

• York Intermediate: Brooke Taube, Kayleigh Benko, Dylan Sakach, Joseph Loggins, Abby Fields, Alyssa Carter.

Brady Watson to attend Naval Academy summer program

U.S. Air Force JROTC cadet Brady Watson at Clover High School has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy summer seminar at Annapolis, Md.

The summer seminars are a fast-paced, six-day experience for high school students who are high achievers. The selection process is very competitive with only 3,000 students selected; more than 18,000 students apply.

The program teaches students about life at the naval academies and how academics, athletics, and professional training all play roles in developing leaders. The seminars also help educate, motivate and prepare students who are considering applying for admission to a service academy.

Watson is deputy group commander in the school’s Air Force JROTC.

York Intermediate names Cool Cougars

York Intermediate School has named the following students Cool Cougars. They are, Team 6-2, Megan Elliott, Jordyn Burton, Adam Whitesides and Tytianna Allen.

Conservation district offers scholarship

The York Soil and Water Conservation District will provide a scholarship for a York County student to attend the S.C. Conservation District’s Youth Workshop June 24-28, 2013 at Lander University in Greenwood.

This is an opportunity for students to study the environment in the areas or wildlife, forestry and natural resource conservation. Included is instruction in outdoor recreation such as canoeing and kayaking.

Students in grades nin to 12 are eligible to attend. Applications must be received in the office by April 19. For an application or details, contact coordinator Barbara O’Connell at 803-684-3137, ext. 101 or email her at barbara.oconnell@sc.nacdnet.net .
