CHS spring sports on schedule after rain

The spring sports season at Clover High School got off to a shaky start when rain disrupted the schedule, but CHS Athletic Director Carroll Hester said delays have been alleviated.

“The early rain messed up some scrimmages and tournaments,” said Hester. “Our soccer team played in a downpour and the baseball team made an adjustment.”

“We’re pretty much where we need to be schedule-wise.”

Hester said CHS will complete its first girls’ and boys’ lacrosse season as spring sports wind down.

He said the weight room at CHS remains busy. “We have athletes involved in offseason weightlifting,” he said. “The coaches also are working in some of the kids who are playing a spring sport.”

Hester said fall sports teams will begin spring practice May 1.

York athletic director wary of more rain

Steve Boyd, athletic director at York Comprehensive High School, said spring sports are almost back on schedule after recent rains.

“We have a couple makeup games to complete,” he said.

Boyd said there are three weeks remaining in the spring season, followed by playoffs. He is cautious about events Thursday and Friday. “The forecast is for possible rainfall later in the week,” he said. “We’ll make adjustments as needed.”

Boyd said YCHS fall sports will begin spring practice May 1 as determined by the South Carolina High School League. Boyd, a member of the High School League’s executive committee, said cheerleader tryouts are this week.

Boyd said the weight room at YCHS remains busy, with weightlifting classes during the day and other athletes lifting after school.
