— Larry Dixon, head varsity basketball coach at York Comprehensive High School, has resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities, the school district announced Tuesday.

Dixon, who also resigned from his other duties as coordinator of the Workforce Investment Act program at York One Academy, joined the Cougar coaching staff in June 2012. He previously served as assistant men's basketball coach for the Winthrop Eagles from 2007 to 2012.

Dixon is leaving the district to pursue other coaching opportunities at the collegiate ranks, according to a statement from the district.

“This is a bitter sweet moment," Dixon said in the statement. "I enjoyed my time working with the players at York. I believe the foundation has been set for the future. There is no doubt that these young men will be successful in whatever they choose to do in life.”

The school district said it is "appreciative of Coach Dixon’s time and efforts in working with students. He has been a positive role model during his employment. The district wishes him success in his future endeavors."
