— A York Police vehicle hit another car and building when an officer left the car unattended to chase a suspect on foot, according to a York Police report.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday when the officer tried to stop a driver suspected of drunken driving. The suspect got out of his car and ran into a wooded area behind the Cedar Terrace apartments off East Liberty Street. The officer gave chase, the report states.

After a short chase, the officer caught the driver. After arresting the suspect, another officer who arrived on the scene noticed the first officer’s patrol car had rolled across the parking lot, struck another vehicle, jumped a curb and ran into a building, the report states.

When the officer left his car to chase the suspect, the transmission remained in drive and the unattended vehicle moved and crashed, the report states.

The S.C. Highway Patrol handled the accident scene and contacted involved parties. No one was injured. Damage was minor. Antoine Detrail Douglas, 29, was charged with DUI, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.
