Meal delivery volunteers needed in Clover

The York County Council on Aging is badly in need of volunteers to deliver meals to frail, homebound seniors in Clover. Delivery takes about an hour and can be done over a lunch hour or around that time.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering should call Tonya Begley at the Clover Mill Senior Center at 803-222-9286 between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Western county NAACP to meet June 20

The Western York County Branch of the NAACP will have its executive board meeting at 6 p.m. June 20 at The United Men’s Club of Clover. A regular meeting follows at 6:30 p.m. For details, contact Wanda Simril at 803-684-6200.

Genealogical society to hold meeting, social

The York County Genealogical and Historical Society will have its annual business meeting and summer social at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Love home, 390 Love St. in McConnells.

There will be several historical interpretations of former York residents.

Master Gardener applications accepted

Clemson Extension Service is taking applications for the Master Gardener Class. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Aug. 6 to Nov. 12 at the Clemson Extension Office, 120 N. Congress St.

The program is open to all adults, regardless of gardening experience. Participants learn about all aspects of gardening from soils, to growing vegetables, fruits, trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns. They also learn about garden pests, beneficial insects and plant physiology. The class costs $300. In addition to the fee, participants must volunteer a minimum of 40 hours in service to the community.

Enrollment is limited, and applications are due by July 6. Applicants will be contacted in July. Call 803-684-9919 for more information.

Arts council offers summer camps

Arts Council of York County’s 2013 Summer Art Camps will run June 10 to July 12 featuring 20 topics for ages 6 and older. The camps will be at the Center for the Arts, the Gettys Art Center and the Community Performance Center.

Camps will be 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Camps fees are $75 for members and $85 for nonmembers. I Heart Art summer camp T-shirts are $10 at registration. Arts grant deadline approaching

The deadline to apply for small grants through the Arts Council of York County is June 1. Small grants are available to individual artists, nonprofit organizations and schools in York County.

The council allocates between $4,000-$5,000 to grant awards each quarter. Organizations and individuals may request up to $1,000 per grant and may receive up to two grants in a calendar year.

Sign up for Lions Club golf tourney on June 17

The River Hills Lions Club’s annual Memorial Celebration Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. June 17 at River Hills Country Club.
