— Police say a group of people rushed a drunk York man who pointed an empty shotgun at another man and threatened to “blow his head off” after an argument that started at the Long Branch in Rock Hill moved to a nearby gas station on Saturday.

At about 2:20 a.m., police were sent to the Circle K gas station on Celanese Road, where they found a crowd of people holding Claude Marcus Shirah Jr., 32, on the ground, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Police spoke with a woman, 37, who said she and her daughter were at Long Branch on Riverview Road with Shirah, Shirah’s girlfriend and another man when Shirah, who was “clearly intoxicated,” began arguing with the man, the report states.

The group left the bar in a car, but Shirah allegedly followed them to the Circle K, where he pulled his truck behind their car, the report states. Shirah got out the car, police said, before he grabbed a shotgun, pointed it at the man and threatened to “blow his head off.”

The group rushed Shirah as the man grabbed the shotgun and others held Shirah to the ground, the report states. A witness told police he walked out of the store and saw the group take the weapon from Shirah, while another witness said he saw Shirah walk out his car with the shotgun in hand.

Shirah told police that he drank several alcoholic beverages that evening, although he refused to conduct a field sobriety test or submit a breath sample, the report states. He told police the gun belonged to him.

Police arrested Shirah and charged him with pointing and presenting a firearm. He was also cited with driving under the influence.
