— A Chesterfield County man wanted for kidnapping was caught in York Saturday when police found him holed up in a hotel room with an apparent victim, according to a York Police report.

The report states Chesterfield law enforcement officials contacted York police to alert them of a possible kidnapping underway.

Police found the suspect, 61-year-old Jerry Wayne Edwards, at the Knights Hotel off U.S. 321 Bypass in York. When questioned, Edwards told police he and his girlfriend were traveling for a weekend trip to the mountains and stopped for the night.

Meanwhile, other officers questioned a woman inside the hotel room. She told officers she was being held against her will and that Edwards had held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her if she tried to escape.

The woman told police she feared for her life, according to the report.

Edwards was arrested at the scene. He was charged in York with an illegal weapons charge and will be charged in Chesterfield County for kidnapping, officials said.
