YORK — The York Parks and Recreation Department’s Dixie Minors All-Stars won two games in the district tournament at Lewisville before being eliminated.
After winning the opening game, the York stars lost to the Union American team. Next came a 7-2 win over Lancaster National.
The York Minors bowed to Union 4-2 in their final tournament appearance.
York head coach Tommy Ashley commended the team for its competitive play. “This is a great group of kids,” said Ashley. “We had good pitching but couldn’t put enough hits together in the two losses.”
He added: “Our kids competed well throughout the tournament. I am proud of all of them.”
The York coach said putting an all-star team together takes time. “We had a group of kids from other teams who played for five different coaches,” he said. “It takes awhile for the players to mesh together.”
Ashley said continuous rainfall impacted the practices and the district tournament games.
“There was the time we were at the ball field for an 8 p.m. game that was delayed until 9:40 p.m.,” Ashley said. “We left the field at 11:30 p.m.”
Though the rain delays became a nuisance, Ashley is appreciative of the support. “I want to thank the players, parents and assistant coaches for their support during so many rain delays,” he said.
