CLOVER — The Clover Parks and Recreation Department’s Dixie Minors All-Star team advanced to the semifinals of district tournament play in Lewisville last week.
Clover lost to Union and Lancaster teams, but prevailed 14-13 against host Lewisville.
“We hit the ball well up and down the lineup in the win over Lewisville,” said head coach Tim McAllister.
The Clover all-star coach lauded the players for character-building attitudes that go beyond the outcome of the game.
“We have a great group of kids that respect the game and each other,” McAllister said. He also thanked the assistant coaches and parents for their loyalty to the team.
“We had the support of everyone during so many delays and rainouts,” he said. “There were times when we didn’t leave the playing field until 11 p.m. because of the delays.”
McAllister said the all-star players put in a lot of hard work in preparation for the district tournament. “We had as many practices as we could, considering the amount of rain that fell leading up to the tournament,” he said.
McAllister said the players made a good account of themselves. “They were competitive playing three games in the tournament,” he said. “I am proud of them.”
