YORK COUNTY — Filing for 2013 municipal elections in Clover, Hickory Grove, McConnells, Sharon, Smyrna and York is now open, according to the York County Registration and Elections office.
Available offices for each municipality are as follows:
• Clover: Mayor and all six council seats
• Hickory Grove: Mayor and all four council seats
• McConnells: Mayor and all four council seats
• Smyrna: Mayor and all four council seats
• York: Council districts 1, 5, 6
Individuals interested in filing for one of the above municipalities must present required information to the York County Registration and Elections office by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.
In addition, filing is open through noon Aug. 22 for the Sharon municipal election, in which the mayor’s post and four council seats are open.
Elections will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Candidates need to complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy and pay the filing fee by cash or check. Anyone who files must be a registered voter and live in the municipality and/or appropriate district.
All information and forms may be downloaded by visiting www.yorkcountygov.com/regelect.
Additional forms are required, including the Statement of Economic Interests and Campaign Disclosure Forms with the S.C. State Ethics Commission. These forms are not required at the time of filing.
However, failure to file with the state Ethics Commission may result in fines and the winning candidate may not take office. Filing of the SEI, however, has no bearing on ballot access or the ability of a candidate to win an election.
Citizens must be registered to vote in person by Friday, Oct. 4 or have their application postmarked by Oct. 5.
All elections in South Carolina now require one of five valid and current photo identifications in order to vote in person: S.C. driver’s license, S.C. photo ID from the Department of Motor Vehicles, military ID, U.S. Passport or a voter registration card with a photo.
If a voter does not have one of these forms of ID, he/she can visit the York County Voter Registration and Elections office, 13 S. Congress St., York, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
