— A Cherokee County woman told deputies that a man and woman maced and assaulted her with a baseball bat while she was in western York County on Monday.

Deputies spoke with the victim, 24, at about 3:30 p.m. after she reported that she was assaulted, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. When police arrived, they found the victim standing in front of a Main Street house, holding a bag of ice on her forehead. Four other people stood nearby.

The woman told police she drove to Smyrna to visit with her friends, the report states. While sitting in her car, a man and woman walked out of the house. The woman, also from Cherokee County, pepper-sprayed the victim.

The victim told deputies she managed to open the car door and push the woman down on the ground, dragging her by her hair, the report states. As she fought with the woman, the victim told police the man began hitting her in the head from behind.

The woman then grabbed an Easton baseball bat and hit her twice on her side, the report states. The man and woman then got into a white car and drove away.

The victim was left with a knot on the left side of her forehead, the report states. Deputies separately interviewed the victim’s friends, who all gave the same account. Authorities found the bat in the bed of a truck belonging to one of the witnesses.

Deputies tried contacting the suspects, but were unsuccessful, the report states. They issued warrants charging them with assault and battery. Court records indicate that they had not been arrested by Tuesday afternoon.
