LAKE WYLIE — A man traveling to York County with his girlfriend and a baby was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital after a gunman known as "ATL" shot him while parked at a Lake Wylie Burger King, deputies say.
At about 6 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the Burger King on S.C. 557 after receiving reports of a shooting, according to a York County Sheriff's report. While en route, they learned that the victim had been moved to the Buster Boyd boat landing, and received a description of a suspect vehicle: a silver Ford Explorer with a Browning Deer sticker and heart sticker on the rear glass windshield.
Deputies spoke with the man's girlfriend, 23, while her boyfriend sat in the front passenger's seat, and a baby and another man were in the back, the report states. The girlfriend told police they had come from Gastonia, N.C., and were preparing to move into a new house in Clover when they decided to stop at Burger King for food.
As they pulled into the drive-thru, a silver Ford Explorer pulled alongside them, the report states. A man wearing a blue hoodie got out of the car and went to the passenger's side where the victim, 27, was sitting.
The two exchanged words before the suspect shot the man, the report states.
The girlfriend drove away and headed towards Carolinas Medical Center Steele Creek, but pulled into the boat landing and called 911, the report states.
The girlfriend identified the shooter as "ATL," a moniker that sounded familiar to police who had past dealings with the gunman, the report states. Clover Police identified the assailant as Kevin Allison.
The victim was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, while deputies spoke with witnesses, the report states. Deputies found a marijuana pipe in the victim's car.
