York businesses to host downtown holiday event

From staff reportsDecember 4, 2013

— The York Downtown Business Association will host the second annual Christmas in Downtown York from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5.

Shops in the downtown area will be open and some will be offering refreshments, special deals or giveaways.

“It’s pretty much left up to the individual merchant or business what they want to do to attract customers,” said Ronnie Bailes, owner of The Men’s Shop on Congress Street.

The event, intended to showcase downtown businesses, will include carolers, a visit from Santa Claus and other attractions, he said.

Bailes said last year’s event attracted a large crowd and downtown businesses anticipate a larger crowd this year.

“One of the most rewarding parts of last year was, I had people walk in my store and say, ‘I didn’t realize what nice shops you had on the street,’” he said.
