York JV baseball second in Clover tourney

— The York Comprehensive High junior varsity baseball team placed second in the Clover Preseason JV Tournament, losing 8-7 to East Gaston in the championship game.

Will McSwain and Shandon Cobb were leading hitters for the Cougars. McSwain had two hits in three at-bats, while Cobb was 1-for-1 with two walks and three stolen bases.

Also hitting safely for the Cougars were Brandon Valentine and Austin Edington.

Trenton Alexander threw four strong innings, striking out six.

The York JV team competed in pool play to open the tournament, defeating Blacksburg 8-2. McSwain had a strong pitching performance, finishing one inning away from a no-hitter.

Edington was 3-for-3 at the plate, including a triple. Steven White had two hits in three at-bats.

In the second game, the Cougars JV recorded an 11-10 come-from-behind extra-inning win against Chester. Edington continued to swing a hot bat, completing a five-run final inning with a three-run walk-off triple. Cody Van Camp picked up the win in relief.

Caleb Clayton threw four strong innings, striking out 12.

Trenton Alexander had a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3. Valentine, White, Clayton and Danny Warren each had two hits.
