Moun Vernon UMC plans first Sunday lunch

Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 2160 Smithford Road, Hickory Grove, will have its first Sunday lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6.

The menu will include cube steak and gravy, chicken strips, rice, macaroni and cheese, green beans, slaw, rolls, homemade desserts and tea, coffee and water to drink.

Cost is $8 adults and $4 for children 10 and younger. All take-out plates are $8.

Hillcrest Baptist plans fun day, yard sale, more

Hillcrest Baptist Church, York, will have a yard sale at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at the church, followed by an Easter “Eggstravaganza” from 1 to 3 p.m. with food, games, music and fun.

Affirmation of York County to meet

Affirmation of York County is a new support group for people of all faith communities who seek support and understanding in working through the issues confronted by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, their families and friends.

Meetings are 7 to 8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 S.C. 160, Fort Mill. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 8.

Free festival April 5 at Bethel Baptist

Bethel Baptist Church, 6031 Charlotte Hwy., will hold a Spring Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5.

There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, egg hunting, music games and more.

The church will hold Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. April 18, and Easter service at 7 a.m. April 20.

Church yard sale April 5

River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton's Ferry Road, will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the gym of the church life center.

All proceeds go the the 2014 youth Honduras mission trip.

Bible study, movies, dad dance offered in Clover

First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., will hold “24 Hours” Bible Study from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays through Lent.

Explore Adam Hamilton’s book, “24 Hours That Changed The World.” Focus on one chapter a week and come together for a video, discussion and exploration. Topics include the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, condemned by the righteous, the Crucifixion and Christ the victor. The book costs $12, available through the church or at cokesbury.com.

The church also will hold Movies and the Cross from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Lent.

Session combines Bible passages with movie clips to explore the Bible and the themes of suffering, sacrifice, love, prayer and persistence. Each session stands on its own, so come for one night or for all sessions.

Child care will be provided through the church. However, those needing infant care should call ahead. Bring a Bible.

The church will host a Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Ball at 6 p.m. March 29. This is a night for girls and their father, uncle, grandfather or other loving father figure. All ages are invited, from adult daughters to toddler daughters.

Advance tickets cost $20 for a couple, $25 at the door. Tickets for additional daughters cost $10 each. Financial assistance is available upon request. Ticket includes food and desserts, professional deejay and picture. Proceeds go to Children’s Attention Home in Rock Hill.

Community invited to join challenge

Through Easter, April 20, Good Samaritan United Methodist Church invites the community to help others through The Upside Down Challenge.

For every mile walked, run or cycled, the church will donate 25 cents to a local or global charity of the participant’s choice. For every pound lost and every day someone stops smoking during Lent, the church will donate 25 cents to a chosen charity. The church will challenge up to $5,000.

The church challenge runs on an honor system with participants tracking their miles, weight and days not smoking.

New Beginnings seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed for God’s Kitchen, a ministry of New Beginnings Baptist Church that delivers meals to at least 120 shut-ins each day.

Volunteers also are being sought for the Lighthouse Thrift Store, which helps provide housing for the homeless. Volunteers will help with daily operations including delivery, pickup and sorting donations.

Community Cafe serving lunch

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly. The Cafe at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church in Fort Mill serves lunch 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Donations are accepted. Details: 330-289-1243.
