— A Clover man is in jail after police say he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a teenage girl nearly a year ago.

After her relationship with Duwan Esteban Caraballo, 23, ended within the last five months, the girl, 14, confided in one of her parents that the two engaged in sexual acts, said Clover Police Lt. Tanner Davis. That parent then told police about the situation.

Police began an investigation and determined that Caraballo's relationship with the girl lasted for at least four months, Davis said. Warrants were issued charging him with three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The girl is "not at the age of consent," Davis said, adding that each count of criminal sexual conduct is for each time Caraballo and the girl allegedly had sexual contact.

According to a police report, the girl met Caraballo last August while she was walking down the street. He was standing in front of his house and said "hey" to her. They spoke for a few minutes and, the girl claims, during the conversation she disclosed that she was 14. They exchanged numbers and began sending text messages to each other.

The girl told police she sneaked out her window that night after her father fell asleep and went to Caraballo's house, where they had sexual relations. They were together two more times, police say, once in September and then again on Christmas.

Caraballo did speak with police, said Davis, who added that he could not specify what the accused said in those conversations. Caraballo turned himself in to police on Wednesday. He is held at the York County Detention Center without bond.
