— A Lake Wylie Waffle House waitress was arrested Sunday after deputies say an argument between her and a co-worker turned physical and sent one of the women to the hospital.

Deputies were sent to the Waffle House on Charlotte Highway after a store manager reported that an argument between two waitresses became heated, according to a York County Sheriff's report.

One waitress, 55, told deputies that the dispute started when her co-worker, Emma Lashell Smith, 47, of Charlotte allegedly took food out of her purse and gave it away, the report states. She reported Smith's activities to the manager, who took both women out to the back of the eatery to discuss the issue.

During the ensuing conversation, Smith allegedly attacked the other woman, the report states, scratching her face and right eye.

Paramedics took the victim to Carolinas Medical Center Steele Creek, while deputies arrested Smith, charging her with third-degree assault and battery.
