Clover Optimists honor youth

May 12, 2014

The Clover Optimist Club held its annual oratorical contest March 29 and named winners.

First place in the boys’ division was won by Taylor Wilson, right. First place in the girls’ division was won by Rachel Park, center, and second place was taken by Joie Palmer.

The participants, along with their families, were honored April 22 with dinner and were presented certificates, medallions and a monetary award. All three winners were invited to attend the zone competition April 22.

At that competition, Wilson and Park came in first place and were invited to Columbia for the district competition. They were presented plaques for their April 22 performance.

The oratorical contest is the longest-running program from Optimist International. At the district competition, one young man and one young woman win a $2,500 scholarship to the university or college of their choice.
