Former Lady Cougar standout earns law degree

Former Lady Cougar basketball standout Jaime Dicks graduated from Southern Miss last weekend with a law degree.

Dicks was a member of the Lady Cougar team the first year York Comprehensive High School moved to 4A classification, which was Paula Blackwell’s first year as head coach.

“We finished second in the region and definitely gained some respect from the schools around the county,” said Blackwell. “Jaime is going to come back this summer and talk to our teams.”

York hosting spring/summer softball registration

The York Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for the 2014 spring/summer adult softball league.

The league is open to men’s and co-ed teams. The deadline to register is Friday, May 16, and the registration fee is $250.

Teams may register from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the York Recreation Center, White Rose Lane. For more information, call the recreation center at 803-684-3742.

Lady Blue Eagles’ plan All Girls Basketball Camp

The first Clover High School all girls basketball camp will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. July 14 to 17.

The camp director is Shakkia Walker, assistant girls’ basketball coach at CHS. The Lady Blue Eagle coaching staff, players and former players will provide instruction.

Pre-registration is recommended, with final registration to be at 4:30 p.m. July 14. Multi-child discount is $10 per child.

Camp day activities will focus on the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, footwork, shooting, defense and ball-handling.

Blue Eagles Basketball Camp begins June 9

The Clover High School Blue Eagles basketball camp will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 9 to 12.

The camp, for grades kindergarten through sixth grade, will be at Clover High School at a cost of $55 per participant. The cost includes 10 hours of instruction, T-shirt and prizes.

Pre-registration is recommended, with final registration is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 9.

Clover, York represented at state 4A track and field

Clover and York each had an elite qualifier in last weekend’s Class AAAA track and field qualifier at Spring Valley High School.

Clover High’s Keyshawn Pressley won his heat in the 100 meters and finished third overall with a 10.79 clocking.

York Comprehensive High School’s Markell Castle placed third in the triple jump with a 44-11.5 measurement. Castle also finished seventh in the long jump at 21-5.

Heat winners plus the next three times advanced to this weekend’s state meet at Spring Valley.
