Wesley UMC women to celebrate extravaganza

The women of Wesley United Methodist Church in York will celebrate their May Extravaganza at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17.

The event will be at Trinity United Methodist Church at 22 E. Liberty St., York. Admission is $10.

First Baptist group plans yard sale

The Journey group at First Baptist Church in York will have a yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17 at the church fellowship hall.

Proceeds from the sale will be used for scholarships for graduates from the church.

First Presbyterian to celebrate restored sanctuary

The historic First Presbyterian Church in York will celebrate its restored sanctuary at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18.

After 18 months of renovations, the congregation and friends will gather for a Homecoming Celebration. The worship service, open to the public, will feature guest musicians, the children’s handbell choir, a dedication by the elders of the refurbished sanctuary, a message by the Rev. Dr. Ed Jillson and a reception in the Family Life Center.

The Presbyterian Church began across West Liberty Street in the Neely House in 1842, with 15 members. The current sanctuary, 10 West Liberty St., was built from 1859-1862, during the Civil War.

Kings Mountain UMC plans yard sale

A large yard sale will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, S.C. 161, York.

Vendors are welcome. The cost is $5 for a 12-by-12-foot lot. A bake sale will be in the church social hall.

Breakfast, including sausage biscuits and coffee, and a lunch of hot dogs and drinks will be sold. Proceeds to go mission projects.

Set-up will begin at 6:30 a.m. June 7. For more information, call 803-684-2493.

Midway Baptist plans revival

Midway Baptist Church, 12984 S.C. 55 West, Clover, will host a revival at 7 p.m. each night May 14 to 18.

Special speaker will be the Rev. Joey Murdock. Special singing also will be presented each night.

Take trip to Holy Land

Charles and Barbara Ford of Lake Wylie will host a trip to the Holy Land Nov. 5-15.

The Fords have lived in and visited Israel many times and have insight into the history, religion and modern day culture of this region, the birthplace of Christianity.

A series of pre-departure study sessions is being planned.

Clover church to hold VBS

New Life Baptist Church, 305 N. Main St., Clover, will hold vacation Bible school 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 14 for pre-K through sixth grade.

Lunch will be provided for children. A family cookout with games follows at 4 p.m. Call 803-222-9990.

Support group to meet

Affirmation of York County is a new support group for people of all faith communities who seek support and understanding in working through the issues confronted by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, their families and friends.
