— The York Post 66 Junior Legion baseball team was scheduled to begin a new season Wednesday, hosting Lancaster at the York Comprehensive High School baseball complex.

With hours of practice time behind them, Junior Legion coaches and players have been eager to start a new season.

“The Junior League team roster consists of 17 players from this year’s York varsity and JV baseball teams,” said head coach Chris Stephenson.

“Most of the team members will be rising sophomores and juniors,” Stephenson said.

Stephenson said he feels good about the pitching staff.

“All of these guys pitched for York’s varsity or JV team this year,” he said. “They continue to work hard and are ready to start playing some games.”

Stephenson encourages the community to support the Junior Legion team this season. All home games will be played at the YCHS baseball complex.

Assistant coaches are Keith McSwain and Danny Mazzell.

The Post 66 Junior Legion team will travel to Rock Hill Post 34 Monday for a 7 p.m. game.

A double-header with the rival Clover Junior Legion team will be Wednesday, May 28.

The action, which will include two five-inning games, will begin at 6 p.m., with the second game slated for a 7:30 p.m. start at the YCHS baseball complex.

After the double-header action, the next home game is 7 p.m. Monday, June 9.

Wednesday’s season opener against Lancaster was played after the Enquirer-Herald had gone to press this week. A game summary will be included in next week’s sports coverage.
