York Comprehensive High School band gets top state award

From staff reportsJune 13, 2014

— The York Comprehensive High School band, directed by Douglas Brooks and Laura Brooks, has been awarded the outstanding performance award for the 2013-2014 school year.

The award is the highest form of recognition given to any high school band program in the state of South Carolina.

To qualify for the award, a band program must participate in and excel in several different S.C. Band Director Association-sponsored events.

They include state marching band championships, region and state honor bands, state concert band festival and a solo and ensemble festival.

The Cougar Band received this award in 1994-1995, 1995-1996, 1996-1997, 2012-2013, and now for the 2013-2014 school year.

The award was presented to the band at its annual band awards ceremony. Band president Allison King accepted the award on behalf of the band. The trophy will remain in the school’s band room.
