Sports briefs for June 26: Clover basketball camp planned

Lady Blue Eagles’ basketball camp begins July 14

The first Clover High School all girls basketball camp will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. July 14-17.

The camp director is Shakkia Walker, assistant girls’ basketball coach at CHS. The Lady Blue Eagle coaching staff, players and former players will provide instruction.

Early registration is recommended, with final registration at 4:30 p.m. July 14. A cost of $55 per participant includes a camp T-shirt. Multichild discount is $10 per child.

Camp day activities will focus on the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, footwork, shooting, defense and ball-handling. Contact Shakkia Walker at 803-810-8062 or email her at shakkia.walker@clover.k12.sc.us.

Cougar baseball camp slated for July 21-23

The York Comprehensive High School Cougar baseball camp will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 21 to 23 at the York Recreation Complex.

This camp is for ages 7 to 13 and will be conducted by YCHS varsity coaches and players. The fee is $35 per child or $60 for two children.

Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt. Registration is at the York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane. The deadline to register is July 17. For details, call 803-684-3742.

YCHS Cougar basketball camp July 7-10

The York Comprehensive High School Cougar basketball camp will be from 9 to 11 a.m. July 7-10 at the York Recreation Center.

The camp is for boys and girls ages 5-15 and is conducted by YCHS girls’ basketball coaches and players. The camp fee of $50 per child includes a camp T-shirt.

Registration is at the York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane. The deadline to register is July 3. Call 803-684-3742 for more information.

Registration continues at Clover Rec

Registration for youth sports is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays at the Clover Parks and Recreation Department on Bethel Street.

Registration for fall soccer, softball and baseball continues weekly and will conclude Aug. 1. Registration for winter basketball will be from Sept. 29 to Oct. 31.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants who sign up after the deadline are not guaranteed a spot on a specific team, regardless of prior participation, and may have to go through the draft.

Free play offered at York Parks and Rec gym

Free play is a popular activity at the York Parks and Recreation Department.

Various age groups are taking advantage of the opportunities each week, according to the York Parks and Recreation staff.

Gym hours for ages 18 and over are from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Other free play hours include: Monday, from 3 to 5 p.m., ages 17 and younger; Tuesday, from 3 to 4 p.m., 17 and younger; Wednesday, from 3 to 7 p.m., all ages; Thursday, from 3 to 5 p.m., 17 and younger; Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m., 17 and younger; and Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m., all ages.
