Officials find body of missing Darlington boater

The Associated PressJuly 14, 2014

— Authorities have found the body of a boater missing in the Great Pee Dee River.

Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd says crews on Monday found the body of 49-year-old Stephen Ashley Murray of Darlington.

Byrd says Murray had been fishing with his son-in-law on Saturday. As they headed home their boat hit a log, tossing the men in the water.

The son-in-law made it to shore. Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says Murray's body was found on the river bank about 50 feet from the scene of the accident.

Hardee says the men were not wearing life vests. Authorities are still investigating.
