Merit award winners

The Western York Branch NAACP awarded Merit Awards for 2008. Recipients were:

u Laron Rosemond Sanders, a graduate of Clover High School, will attend the Bridge to Clemson program in the fall. Sanders is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Sanders.

u Jordan Benn, a graduate of York Comprehensive High School, will attend MIT school in Boston in the fall. Benn is the son of Deloris Benn.

u Justin Kershaw, a graduate of York Comprehensive High School, will attend York Tech in the fall. Kershaw is the son of Carolyn Kershaw.

Seeking glasses

The River Hills Lions is accepting donations of old or outdated eyeglasses or lenses. They are accepted at four donation box sites. Locations include Sweet Repeat Thrift Store, 4094 Charlotte Highway, Lake Wylie; Food Lion, 5233 S.C. 557, Lake Wylie; Poole Optometric, 121 Bethel St., Clover; and Harris Teeter 1750 N.C. 160, Charlotte.

For details, visit www.lionsclub.org. Residents of the Clover school district who need assistance with eye exams or eyeglasses can contact the Clover Area Assistance Center, 1130 S.C. 55, and fill out an application. Eye exams will be provided for those who qualify.

Seeking past 4-Hers

Embarking on its 100-year anniversary, South Carolina 4-H is asking all area 4-H alumni to contact the York County Clemson Extension office at 684-9919 to be listed on its records.

Many extension offices will be hosting alumni events, including a statewide 4-H reunion in the fall.

Clover Jaycees

Clover Jaycees are seeking energetic, caring people between 21 and 40 to join the group. The Jaycees meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 502 W. Main St. in Clover.
