Hudson Family Band

Bluegrass band the Hudson Family Band will perform at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the church, 5780 Allison Creek Road, York. A collection will be taken to cover expenses. For details, www.allisoncreekbluegrass.com.

Holy Day

All Saint's Catholic Church's Feast of the Assumption is Aug. 15, which is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church celebrating the Blessed Virgin's assumption into heaven.

All Saints will offer a vigil at 7 tonight followed by two masses on the Holy Day at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. All are welcome at any of these masses. All Saints is at 553 Pole Branch Road at the intersection with S.C. 274 in Lake Wylie.

Tractor, Engine Show

Kings Mountain Chapel UMC will hold its 4th Annual Tractor and Engine Show, in addition to a Car & Truck Show, beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 16.

There will be biscuits, hot dogs and hamburgers available. Vendors are welcome. There are no entry fees.

Kings Mountain is on S.C. 161 in York.

Summerfest breakfast

Trinity United Methodist Church will have a Summerfest breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at the church, 22 E. Liberty St., York. The meal includes grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, coffee and orange juice.

Cost is $6 adults; $3 children, ages 4 to 10; and free for children younger than 3. Proceeds benefit the Bible study class and Christmas needy families. For details, call Mary Jane Shuler at 684-4539, Bill Fischer at 628-1744 or the church office at 684-4100.

Marriage seminar

Filbert Presbyterian Church, 2066 Filbert Hwy., York, will host the Paul Tripp seminar "Marriage: There Really is a Better Way" from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Oct. 4. Lunch and nursery are provided. Registration cost for the conference is $30 per person or $60 per couple through Sept. 4. Scholarships available.

Preschool openings

u First Baptist Preschool of York has limited openings for 4 year olds. The program offers two options for 4 year olds: a three day a week class and a five day a week class.

Classes meet from 9 a.m. until noon. Tuition is $85 a month for three days a week and $120 a month for five days a week. For more information, contact Laura Nettles at 684-4297.

uFirst United Methodist Church Preschool is enrolling children who will be 3 or 4 before Sep.1 for the 2008-2009 school term.

There are a few four day spots remaining. These spots are from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. The program focuses on the kindergarten readiness skills for the Clover School District. They also offer music, art and Spanish and the Christian curriculum Godly Play.
