Billy Joe Howell
HICKORY GROVE -- Billy Joe Howell, 66, of 2061 Scenic View Road, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney.
The funeral was April 21, 2008, at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Hyder and the Rev. Carl Howell officiated. Burial was at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
A native of Hickory Grove, Billy was a son of the late William Howell and Wilma Bratton Howell. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by five sisters, Sarah Burgess of Hickory Grove, Emily Brown of York, Blanche Smith of York, Judy Bolin of Clover, Minnie Whitesides of York; two brothers, Walter Howell of Hickory Grove and Bob Howell of Chester; 19 nieces and nephews; and 39 great-nieces and nephews.

Ned Rogers
CLOVER -- Ned Rogers, 85, of 208 Jackson Terrace, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C.
Mr. Rogers was born April 16, 1922, in Lackawanna, N.Y., to the late Eli and Anna Drazich Radjenovich. He graduated from Lackawanna High School and was a Class of 1949 graduate of the University of Buffalo in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Rogers was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the Carrier Bunker Hill in the Pacific Fleet. He retired from IBM in 1982 and was professor of Calculus at Elmira College from 1982 to 1984.
Survivors are his wife, Helen Rogers of the home; daughter, Gayle R. Mullen of Corning, N.Y.; sons, Mark Rogers of Buffalo, N.Y., Don Rogers of Clover, S.C., and Gary Rogers of Australia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William Whitesides Sr.
CLOVER -- William Clark Whitesides Sr., 90, of 3731 Woodstream Road, York, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C.
Mr. Whitesides was born Nov. 7, 1917, in York County, S.C., to the late Raymond Thomas Whitesides and Finley Clark Whitesides Saine. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Mr. Whitesides worked for Holsum Baking Co. for 35 years and retired from MTS of Clover, S.C. His retirement years were spent farming, raising cattle and running errands for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Funeral service was April 18, 2008, at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Bryant and the Rev. Harry Bryant officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Memory Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ila Ruppe Whitesides of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Holliday of Clover; sons and daughters-in-law, William C. Jr. and Peggy Whitesides of Clover, Larry and Anna Whitesides of Clover and Kenneth and Wanda Whitesides of Clover; brother, Joseph Roy Whitesides of Gastonia, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael Whitesides, Kevin Whitesides, Julie Holliday, Jason Holliday, Nicholas Whitesides and Kristopher Whitesides; stepgranddaughter, Amy Faulkenberry; great-grandsons, Will and Graham Whitesides; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 5415 Highway 557, Clover, SC 29710; Gaston Hospice, 258 E. Garrison Blvd., P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054; or to the charity of donors choice.

YORK -- Mary Mildred Pruitt, 85, of 25 Wray St. died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Wayne T Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill. The funeral was April 18 at Central Baptist Church. The Rev. Ray Talley officiated. Burial was at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
