Clover Family Dollar robbed Tuesday night

- kdick@heraldonline.com

Police are looking for a man who held up Clover’s Family Dollar just before closing last night.

Two employees were outside the Family Dollar store on U.S. 321 cleaning the windows around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when a white man in his early 20s approached them, said Clover Police Sgt. David Dover in a release issued this morning.

The employees told police the man had his hands and arms inside the sleeves of his green hooded shirt and the hood covered most of his face, Dover said.

The unknown man ordered the two employees back inside the store to “empty the tills,” according to a Clover Police Report. The man kept his hand on the back of one of the employees while they handed over money from the register.

The man got about $200 before leaving the store, Dover said. The employees said they didn’t see a weapon during the robbery, the report says, but they do remember that man being in the store a couple hours earlier.

Officers found money on the ground in the area the suspect left the store.

The York County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit tracked a trail that ended near the dumpsters, but no suspect was found, Dover said.

The employees described the man as being about 20-to 25-years-old, between 5-foot 10-inches and 6-feet tall, weighing around 155 to 170 pounds, Dover said. He had light-colored eyes.

Anybody with information about this crime are asked to contact York Crime Stoppers at 877-409-4321 or Clover Police at 803-222-9494.
