Our View

  • Smoking ban goes too far

As I read last week’s “Guest View” on page five of the Enquirer-Herald, I found it obvious that some people just don’t “get it” in regards to the countywide smoking ban that went into effect some months back.

  • Bauer’s comments out of line, not shocking

South Carolina is making the rounds as the punch line of the late night comics again thanks to another one of our silver-tongued politicians.

  • Special election turnout was abysmal

Less than 100 people cast a vote in last Tuesday's special election. Not counting the 18 absentee ballots 77 people bothered to show up at the polls on Election Day, and three of them were the candidates on the ballot.

As a soldier in the United States army, I have often pondered what it means to be patriotic, what it means to serve our country, and what it means to love America.

A recent review of the governor's calendar over his seven years in office presents a more complete and less flattering picture.

  • Angelou's visit rekindles memories of chance encounter

The recent visit to Charlotte by Dr. Maya Angelou triggered an automatic recollection for me of one of the greatest theatrical experiences I ever had. In 1961 I had made friends with Natalie Ross, a young actress who was the understudy for Sarah Marshall in the Larry Parks Broadway Play, "Come Blow Your Horn."
